woke up yesterday morning and felt that it was a good day to try out my close to non-existent culinary skills! yay!! had a craving for the borthday cakes that my mum bakes.. so even though there's no special occasion, i bugged mum into teaching me how to bake one.. maybe some divine being was gving me a sign to stop baking.. when we were just finishing with the batter, the oven "blew up" and short circuited the house.. it certainly chose the right time.. the batter could not wait if not it will go bad! undeterred, my mum called her arsenal of friends and finally we went to one of my neighbour's house, about 10 minutes drive away, to continue my undying baking quest.. tada!! gonna slice the cake and spread the cream and decor later!! *rubs palms in glee* good things always come in threes! so.. mission 3: oven baked!!! i flipped through mum's whole library of recipes for 2 hours and finally found the recipe.. preparing the food is 100 times tougher than the cooking itself! it got me sweating profusely.. cutting mushrooms, grating the cheese, making the pasta sauce by blending and meshing tomatoes and adding a lot of what nots, making gluten, boiling the pasta, washing stuff yada yada... what a handful.. and not to forget.. the oven in my house is awaiting a trip to the hospital.. mum was expecting me to give up my decision to prepare dinner.. but no!! the great chef is on a roll!! so.. i borrowed a multi-purpose microwave from that neighbour and carried it all the way home! i swear it is 10 kg!! look at its sheer size! then became... and finallyyyyy........ what a wonderful way to end the day! :)
mission 1: egg tarts!!!
somehow it didn't taste as nice as when my mum made it.. but well! see those brown looking filling? they are the products of my close to non-existent ingenuity.. decided to add some chocolate chips into the egg tart filling to create a new flavour.. haha.. well.. it tastes.. like.. erm.. chocolate, egg, and tart :)
mission 2: cake!!!
it couldn't fit into the kitchen, so we had to house the microwave in the living room.. my hand was cramping so badly i couldn't move it for about 10 minutes..
the end result was definitely worth the cramps and the effort!!! *yum* it definitely feels good eating and having people eat your creation!!! :):):)
